A train ride paid for by a stranger, a marriage proposal and a new snapchat friend – not bad for our first hour in Istanbul.
Couple that with a totally adorable air bnb studio, a stroll through Taksim square and a delicious first meal – oh, and the friendliest people ever – we’e got a pretty good first impression of Istanbul.
Exploring a brand new place by foot (& public transport) rather than relying on a transfer or taxi is definitely the way to get to know the heart of the city and its people. We caught three metro lines, walked, got a bit lost, asked for directions and had no internet but we made it to our studio apartment smiling.
